What We Do

summary

Activate divides its work into five areas of development. Running through all these areas are the three areas of focus: Cultural Olympiad / Young People / Artists Development (see who we are).

Activate's programme of work is divided into five core areas:

Activating Support Services

Each year we respond to a broad range of requests from individuals, companies and local authorities. We maintain a database of freelance artists, teachers and practitioners qualified to deliver dance and theatre activity and offer advice and guidance to support dance and theatre development in the county to the end.

- Advice and guidance – why not give us a call if you have any questions relating to dance and theatre in our area and we’ll do our best to help.

- Bi-annual Newsletter – Sign up to receive a copy of our newletter.

- Regular E-news – We produce a newsletter which highlights events and opportunities available. Sign up to receive regular e-news on either dance or theatre opportunities and events.

- Sign up to our Facebook groups. We have four groups; Activate TheatreNet, Activate DanceNet, Activate Youth TheatreNet and Activate Youth DanceNet.

DanceNet and TheatreNet are our professional development initiatives for artists and practitioners that include regular class, one off masterclass, training, bespoke advice and business support.

Activating Participation

Our programme to increase opportunities and access to dance and theatre for the community, regardless of age, ability or previous experience. Every year, Activate delivers a series of projects from intergenerational workshops, to working with the Gurkha community at the local army camp, from working with the county sports partnership to residential opportunities for young people.

Activating Audiences

Activate does not work alone. It has strong links to the professional promoters of dance and theatre performance locally. Through a county wide Promoters Consortium, Dorset Arts Promoters Forum, Bournemouth and Poole promoters and Arts Development teams, we raise the profile of dance and theatre and work with venues to promote and present a high quality and sometimes challenging mix of professional work.

Activating Production

Activate supports the creation of new work in the county. We are particularly interested in helping develop work by artists based locally. This includes commissioning, mentoring, advice and guidance, as well as platforms and partnership projects with venues and other development agencies.
